Paul McStay spent his entire career with Celtic, making his debut in 1982 and retiring in 1997.  In his time with the club, Celtic won the League title three times, the Scottish Cup four times and the League Cup once. His talent, passion and commitment have never been forgotten by the Celtic support and it will be an honour to welcome him home.

As a long-time admirer of Paul McStay, Rio Ferdinand draws a parallel with one of his heroes as he spent a remarkable 12 years at Manchester United. This followed successful spells at West Ham United and Leeds United. His honours in Manchester included a UEFA Champions League, six Premier League Titles and two League Cups.

Mirroring the match, net proceeds of the Maestrio Dinner will be split equally between Celtic FC Foundation* and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation**. Monies will be primarily devoted to the work of the two charities in support of opportunities for young people in Glasgow and London respectively.

Celtic FC Foundation’s* priority is to focus on the four key themes of improving Health, promotingEquality, encouraging Learning and tackling Poverty and we have a strong track record of delivering successful community-based projects.

Operating since 2012, the Rio Ferdinand Foundation** aims to inspire and enable young people to reach their potential by providing pathways to education and employment.

Celtic FC Foundation* CEO, Tony Hamilton, said: “We are exceptionally fortunate that both Paul and Rio have given up their time to support two major charity events over the course of a very special weekend in September.

“I’m sure the Maestrio Dinner will be a memorable evening and convey everything that is extraordinary about the Celtic Family and our friends at the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.”

Gary Stannett of the Rio Ferdinand Foundation**, added: “’It’s great news that we can now announce the Maestrio Charity Dinner as part of a wonderful fundraising weekend.

“This will give people an opportunity to hear from both Paul McStay and Rio Ferdinand, and get to know the work of the Rio Ferdinand and Celtic FC Foundations. I am sure the dinner event, like the match, will be a resounding success.”
