Rio Ferdinand Foundation’s volunteer football coach wins award

Elina ParkerSalford’s Community champions who form the ‘heart’ of the city were celebrated at a special event.

Rio Ferdinand Foundation volunteer Elina Parker won the prestigious category of ‘Community Volunteer Award.’

404 Not Found Her category had over 15 nominees, all doing wonderful work in the city.

The Heart of Salford Awards 2014 paid homage to many of the volunteers and organisations who help to improve the lives of residents.

More than 200 guests including the ceremonial Mayor and Mayoress of Salford attended the eleventh annual ceremony hosted by Salford Community and Voluntary Services and the Volunteer Centre Salford.

Guests were treated to a hotpot lunch and a selection of songs from Eccles Community Choir.

Elina Parker2The Rio Ferdinand Foundation nominated football coach, youth mentor and mum-of-three Elina Parker for the Community Volunteer Award for her many years of hard work and commitment in the community.

She has helped to set up and run a community football project which serves hundreds of young people every year, providing positive activities, and access to new opportunities.

We are immensely proud of Elina and grateful for her contribution to the Rio Ferdinand Foundation’s sports sessions and events in Salford. She really deserves this recognition for her dedication and achievements. The award’s judges were impressed by her ‘continued dedication to making a difference in the lives of the children and young people she supports’.
