RFF Celebrates Young People’s Achievements at Ignite Event with NCS-The Challenge!

On Saturday the 28th of November 2015 the Rio Ferdinand Foundation took part in an end of year celebration event in Manchester at the Museum of Science and Industry with NCS-The Challenge.

404 Not Found NCS (National Citizens Service) is a government run organisation that strives to help young people build new skills, take on new challenges and meet new people. In conjunction with The Challenge this programme involves working as part of a team to help develop a project that will tackle an issue from their local community. By offering this service young people are being encouraged to develop their personal and social skills whilst also bringing young people together from different backgrounds to encourage community cohesion.

#RFF Salford was brought on board to engage young people using a variety of mediums such as creative arts and media. Our workshops focused on skills such as using your initiative, teamwork and communication. We covered Maths, English, Art History, Science, even c.v writing and more!

Our photographer Andy was on hand to help other participants learn how to use our digital cameras to film and document the workshops.

Dance and drama sessions where also on offer, it was a brilliant opportunity for team #RFF Salford to be a part of such a creative mix!

The Ignite event was a huge success with over 200 young people present to celebrate their achievements and take part in the employability workshops.

Programme Manager of the Rio Ferdinand Foundation in Salford Victoria Lowe led the workshops:

‘The Rio Ferdinand Foundation was very excited to be apart of this celebration event with NCS-The Challenge teaching key employability skills in a creative and active way was so much fun!

We were really impressed with the young people and their social action projects, which showcased such amazing leadership skills and community spirit.

As a foundation we focus on the development of young people supporting them to build a brighter future, not only for themselves but also for their communities. To see how confident and motivated the participants are to move on to the next step, whether it’s through further training, education or employment is wonderful.’

The Rio Ferdinand Foundation Strives to support young people’s personal development, using sport creative media to build confidence, raise aspirations and improve life skills.

As always we would like to say a big thank you to our funders The Big Lottery for their continued support!!!
