Over the past couple of months, we have been working with young female leaders in year nine at William Hulme’s Grammar School.
For the first four weeks, the girls took part in sessions on resilience, connection, communication and self-acceptance, using sports as a vehicle to identify ways to cope with mental health issues and support one another.
Following the four sessions, the young women then went on to complete a three-day Level 1 Sports Leadership Award. The group developed their communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills, and had the opportunity to plan and deliver their own sports activities.
One of the participants on the course, said, “Doing the Level 1 Sports Leadership Award has been really useful – I volunteer in a primary school to coach children and this course has made me more confident and comfortable at coaching.”
The group are now planning a visit to a local primary school in Salford to deliver a multi-sports day with the children.
Well done WHGS year nine!
