Visit from Katie Archibald and the Big Lottery Fund

Olympic gold medalist Katie Archibald visited us in Salford to meet our young leaders as part of our National Lottery Community Fund, Inspiring Youth Leaders work.

Our youth leaders had the opportunity to ask Katie about her daily routine as a competitive athlete and how she got into cycling as a sport. We even asked about her Olympic ring tattoo and her coloured hair!

As a recipient of the lottery fund, Katie has been nominated for the National Lottery Awards due to her outstanding contribution and commitment to sport. At just 24 years of age, Katie has won two World Championship Track titles, two European Championship Track titles, and 7 National Championship Track titles. Alongside the infamous gold medal in the team pursuit at Ri0 Olympics 2016. On top of her on track successes, Katie also encourages more people to get on their bike, whether it be in the velodrome, on your way to work or just for fun.

We asked our young people their thoughts on meeting the Olympic athlete. Maria stated “She’s a genuine person, she’s a lovely on and off camera”. Furthermore, Lauren went on to describe her as “a great role model for young people”
