‘Inspiring Youth Leaders’ is an exciting Big Lottery funded programme working with young people (aged 14-25 years) across Salford and Manchester. The three-year initiative builds on our previous ‘Rio’s Rising Stars’ programme which ran from 2013 to 2016 and worked with thousands of young people across Salford.
The next three years will see us continue delivery in our six existing areas in Salford; Langworthy, Ordsall, Eccles, Broughton, Little Hulton and Walkden and expand to six new areas including Irwell, Weaste, Seedley, Swinton, Moss Side and Hulme. These twelve areas all fall within the top 10% most deprived neighbourhoods of the country and contain some of the highest rates for child poverty, NEETs, looked after children, crime and anti-social behaviour.
Working with a plethora of community, corporate and private sector partners, the programme uses a range of sports, arts and media activities to engage young people and, following our proven intervention model, develops them as leaders in their communities. By creating these opportunities for local young people the programme helps to tackle issues of youth crime and anti-social behaviour, along with youth unemployment and academic underachievement
