Millwall and Ferdinand kick of new partnership

The Rio Ferdinand Foundation and Millwall Community Trust, co-hosted football tournament on the 11th of April, kicked off a new chapter of opportunities for young people in Southwark

The football match at Burgess Park, united boys, and girls from across the borough during the Easter Holidays, providing a safe space for young people to connect and showcase their talents.

The Tournament marks a new chapter between the two organisations focused on amplifying the impact of their work for local young people.

Plans being taken forward include a careers event at Millwall involving RFF partners Warner Music and Kiss FM in October and inviting students and participants of Millwall's education and social inclusion projects to take part in Foundation activities across the year.

Having grown up in Peckham I’ve always been aware of the good work Millwall do in the area, particularly engaging and creating opportunities for local young people. I know they do a lot. I’m therefore delighted to see my Foundation and the Millwall Community Trust working together and really excited to see our partnership move forwards.
— Rio Ferdinand, Founder of Rio Ferdinand Foundation
The Co-Hosted tournament over the school holidays was a great opportunity for local boys and girls to take part in some competitive football games. It gave them a safe space to showcase their talent but to also meet other local young people and learn more about the wide variety of different opportunities that both RFF and MCT offer young people in the area.

“We are looking forward to developing our partnership with RFF and the Co-hosted tournament will set the foundations for more to come in the future.
— Joubin Sarrami - Community Manager - Millwall Community Trust
