Abilty Counts this Christmas time

On Sunday, 8th December, the Youth Leadership Group from the IFI Beyond the Ball programme took the reins in a seasonal social action extravaganza at Sean Dolans GAC Club in Derry.

The tournament, known as Ability Counts, was enjoyed by 80 young people with Special Educational Needs and their families, with participants travelling from Sligo, Donegal, and Belfast to take part.

Locally funded by Choice Housing, the event was organised by young people who have completed Youth Leadership training and accreditation with the Rio Ferdinand Foundation. A programme of employability and development that empowers young people with the skills and confidence to deliver their projects in their home counties.

The Youth leadership group fully embraced the opportunity to organise the tournament, relishing the responsibility of scheduling games and referring and even taking on the parts of Santa and the elves to support and encourage participants.

Connecting Communities through Social Action. A big well done, and a Merry Christmas to all involved.
