Oldham College hosts a day of opportunity
Inspire, Educate, Connect is the theme for next week’s Enterprise event at Oldham College
The Rio Ferdinand Foundation is building upon its existing programme of work in Oldham and has joined forces with Oldham Enterprise Trust and Oldham Opportunity Area once more to give young people from eight local schools the opportunity to gain career knowledge and guidance from a host of successful local businesses.
80 young people are expected to attend the event on Wednesday 13th October, as part of a programme of work delivered by the Rio Ferdinand Foundation and Oldham Enterprise Trust, to create opportunities and pathways for young people in Oldham.
The careers event at Oldham College will provide young people with the opportunity to develop their digital and entrepreneurial skills, join in workshops on enterprise and film making, delivered by the Rio Ferdinand Foundation. Attendees will hear from Rio Ferdinand Foundation ambassador Islam, a former Oldham Sixth Form College Student who will share her own experience.
The event will be attended by local businesses including Trailar Solar, Cornerstone, Ultimate Products, and Dream Big, amongst others, each speaking about their own experiences, sharing insight and careers guidance, whilst demonstrating their commitment to supporting young people with career progression opportunities.
The event will offer different interactive sessions for young people to take part in, to build their skills and knowledge, unleash their entrepreneurial talents and find out about potential careers available to them in the future.
“It is a pleasure to once more work with partners in Oldham to support young people to personally develop, secure meaningful careers and unleash their potential.
The event today demonstrates our collective commitment to empowering young people, connect young people with employers, and open their eyes to the career pathways available.”
Gary Stannett, CEO of the Rio Ferdinand Foundation
“These opportunities are so important for young people like me, it's brilliant to be able to meet local businesses and entrepreneurs and hear about how they’ve developed their own companies. Getting those insider tips is crucial and can really make you aware of career options you didn’t think existed. I’m excited to speak about my own experience of being involved in the programme and how its developed my own skills and confidence for the future.”
Islam Elbagir Amin Salih, Rio Ferdinand Foundation Ambassador
